Dumbledore, notorious for giving second chances Dumbledore, let Sirius rot in Azkaban for twelve years.

He must have known Sirius well due to his time in the Order, he must have known what James meant to Sirius. Dumbledore was a member of the freaking Wizengamot yet he didn’t fight the Ministry’s horrifying trial-optional policy.

This is a man who took back Death Eater!Snape at his word, shielded him from prison, and employed him at a school for children.

But he didn’t have a use for Sirius, so he didn’t care about him.

I got 99 problems with Dumbledore and his treatment of Sirius Black accounts for like 64 of them.

To be honest, Albus Dumbledore is one of the most disturbing, terrifying characters I’ve ever found in a book, because he thought he was a good guy and so did everyone else and the books don’t really challenge it either (given that Harry forgives him for everything he did), but when you look between the lines he was profoundly, profoundly immoral and unethical.

A couple of months ago, I was talking about HP characters with a friend, and he said that Dumbledore was one of his least favorite characters of all time.

Naturally, this took me back a bit since he’s one of the heroes of the series, misguided as he was at times. Still, I was curious and asked my friend why he hated him. His answer still strikes a chord with me.

"There is never, ever a reason to leave a child in an abusive home. Never."

You know Dumbledore and Blue Fairy have a lot in common…

Even with the blood protection, Harry didn’t need to spend years there. He could have spent a month in the summer and then gone to live with just about anyone else.

And now I’m imagining if Remus had raised him, the last of the Mauraders.

Remus helping him adjust to the odd things magic did.

Remus teaching him tolerance because of his own affliction

Remus taking him to Diagon Alley on shopping trips when he needs certain ingredients.

Remus telling him stories of all The Mauraders. “I don’t know what happened to that map of ours….”

Remus making sure Harry was prepared for Hogwarts, and seeing him off on the train

Remus being excited that Harry was in Gryffindor and had two really loyal friends.

Remus being more accepting of Tonks feelings for him, because through Harry he learned he was worthy of love.

Just, Remus raising Harry.

Remus raising Harry is my favorite HP thing ever.  It bothers me that the potential for a really awesome Remus and Harry relationship gets so ignored after the third book.

I love imagining what it would have been like, the two of them.

AU where Harry is brought up by Sirius and Remus.

Harry swaggering into Hogwarts at age 11.
Harry trying to lean back in his chair like he’d seen Sirius do.
Harry knowing all the secret passage ways in his very first year itself.
Harry knowing the perfect hexes for Malfoy.
Harry pretending to be really embarrassed by Remus teaching them in 3rd year, but secretly feeling delighted when he finds the rest of his class thinks he’s the coolest teacher they’ve had.
Harry getting howlers from Sirius announcing the next Weird Sisters concert.
Harry fiercely defending werewolves.
And most importantly, Harry who is happy and loved. Harry who has someone to go home to. Harry who has someone to talk about his teenage woes to. Harry who grew up knowing what wonderful, brave people his parents were.

stardustcrumb:

You can see the difference in how these characters were brought up clearly from the younger years. Harry if you remember has to be prompted to tell his name, most likely because the Dursley’s hated to acknowledge he is important. Ron, as an afterthought tells his name as though he always gets a head of himself and must be reminded all the time to tell others who he is. While Hermione recites her name as though she has walked up to so many kids trying to make friends, because her parents told her the easiest way to make friends is to introduce yourself. And finally Draco leads with his family name because it shows his pure blood status and sets him above the rest; it is what makes him important and special, and his last name is the only thing that matters. Yet in the end war does not care what your name is, it hurts without discrimination, and that is what the second gifs display all to well.

People who hate Harry Potter missed the a giant part of the story. Despite being abused by his aunt, uncle and cousin his whole life Harry was kind, compassionate, loyal, protective and honest. He defended those who needed it and stood up to those who deserved it. He didn’t become bitter or hateful. And he spent his life trying to protect others. You can’t hate him because people chose to stand by him even if it meant they’d die. He didn’t want that, he wanted everyone to live even if it meant he couldn’t anymore.

It’s because he suffered PTSD in book 5 and was mistaken for a whinny angsty teen.

imagine being fourteen and having the mass-murderer who killed your parents telling you that he’s going to kill you

and then escaping with the corpse of a fellow student AND THEN HAVING NO-ONE BELIEVE YOU

AND GOING BACK TO LIVE IN A LOVELESS HOUSEHOLD FOR SIX WEEKS WITH NO INFORMATION FROM YOUR WORLD, THINKING THAT THAT MASS-MURDERER MIGHT BE STANDING ON YOUR DOORSTEP AT ANY MOMENT

Harry has every right to be angsty in ootp I’D LIKE TO SEE YOU HANDLE IT
